About This Tool

Simulate and evaluate low-level bitwise operations, bit shifts, circular rotations, and numeric representations across 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit integer boundaries.

Features an interactive clickable bitboard where every individual bit can be toggled in real time, synchronizing binary, hexadecimal, unsigned decimal, signed 2s complement, and octal outputs.

Includes full support for bitwise logic (AND, OR, XOR, NOT, NAND, NOR, XNOR), logical/arithmetic shifts, circular bit rotations (ROL/ROR), and bit reversals.

Key Features

  • Interactive Bitboard: Click individual bits (0 or 1) across 8, 16, or 32-bit widths with instant synchronization.
  • Circular Bit Rotations: Rotate binary bits circularly to the left (ROL) or right (ROR) without losing overflow bits.
  • Two's Complement Inspection: Inspect signed negative integer representations alongside unsigned magnitudes.
  • Hamming Weight & Popcount: Count the total number of active 1-bits instantaneously.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a logical shift (SHR) and arithmetic shift (SAR)?
A logical shift right (>>>) fills newly vacated high bits with zeroes regardless of sign. An arithmetic shift right (>>) preserves the sign bit (filling with 1 if the number is negative), which accurately preserves division by powers of two for signed numbers.
How do circular bit rotations (ROL and ROR) work?
In a circular rotation, bits that get pushed out of one end wrap around and enter the opposite end, ensuring no bits are dropped or lost.
Does this tool run calculations on an external server?
No. All bitwise logic, rotations, and number conversions execute 100% locally in your browser.
