2-Way Zod & JSON Conversion

Runtime schema validation bridges the gap between dynamic untrusted inputs (APIs, webhooks, databases) and strict static TypeScript types.

⚡ JSON → Zod / Valibot

Paste JSON payloads to generate z.object({...}) or v.object({...}) with z.infer<typeof Schema>.

🧪 Zod → Mock JSON

Generate realistic mock test payloads conforming to any Zod or Valibot schema with valid UUIDs, emails, numbers, and nested objects.

📄 Zod → JSON Schema

Export standard Draft-07 JSON Schema definitions for OpenAPI documentation, Swagger specs, and cross-language validators.

Static Typing vs Runtime Validation

In TypeScript, interface definitions like interface User { email: string } are completely erased when compiled to JavaScript. If an API endpoint receives invalid data, a standard interface cannot throw an error or guard against runtime crashes.

Schema libraries like Zod and Valibot validate data at runtime, parsing raw objects and safely narrowing types:

Code Recipes

Zod Validation in Node.js / Express

import { z } from 'zod';

const UserSchema = z.object({
  id: z.string().uuid(),
  email: z.string().email(),
  role: z.enum(['admin', 'member'])
});

// Safe parsing without try/catch
const result = UserSchema.safeParse(req.body);
if (!result.success) {
  return res.status(400).json(result.error.flatten());
}
const user = result.data; // Fully typed as { id, email, role }

Valibot Tree-Shakeable Validation

import * as v from 'valibot';

const UserSchema = v.object({
  id: v.pipe(v.string(), v.uuid()),
  email: v.pipe(v.string(), v.email())
});

const user = v.parse(UserSchema, input);

Frequently Asked Questions

Why use Zod or Valibot instead of plain TypeScript interfaces?
TypeScript interfaces exist only during compilation and are completely stripped in production JavaScript. They cannot validate untrusted network inputs, form submissions, or database rows. Zod and Valibot provide runtime validation while automatically deriving compile-time types via z.infer, closing the type safety gap.
What is the architectural difference between Zod and Valibot?
Zod relies on an object-oriented chain pattern (z.string().email()) where validator methods are attached to class prototypes, resulting in an unshakeable ~12KB bundle. Valibot employs a modular functional pipeline (v.pipe(v.string(), v.email())) that modern bundlers can tree-shake down to ~1KB for browser client bundles.
How does Zod to Mock JSON reverse generation work?
The reverse generator parses the schema declaration tree, extracting field constraints (such as email, uuid, datetime, min/max numbers, and enum literals) and produces structured mock JSON fixtures ready for testing without requiring server runtime execution.
Can I export the output for OpenAPI or Swagger documentation?
Yes. In reverse mode, choose Zod to JSON Schema to output standard Draft-07 JSON Schema definitions that directly integrate into OpenAPI 3.0/3.1 specs and cross-language schema registries.
Does this converter detect date formats and email fields automatically?
Yes. The inference engine inspects string values to detect ISO-8601 datetimes (z.string().datetime()), RFC 5322 emails (z.string().email()), standard UUIDs (z.string().uuid()), URLs (z.string().url()), and integer constraints (z.number().int()).

About This Tool

This is a 2-way converter: paste JSON to generate a Zod or Valibot schema with inferred formats and an exported TypeScript type, or flip direction to turn an existing Zod/Valibot schema into mock JSON test fixtures or a Draft-07 JSON Schema document. The swap button (⇄) flips direction without retyping.

It generates schema code; it does not run validation for you. If you only need plain TypeScript interface declarations with no runtime checks, use JSON to TypeScript instead.

Key Features

  • Three conversion directions: JSON → Zod/Valibot, Zod/Valibot → Mock JSON, and Zod/Valibot → JSON Schema.
  • Zod or Valibot target: switch libraries without changing the input JSON.
  • Smart format detection: recognizes email, UUID, URL, and ISO datetime strings and adds the matching validator.
  • Optional/strict toggles: mark fields optional with ? or lock objects down with .strict().
  • Export declarations: adds z.infer<typeof Schema> (or Valibot's equivalent) alongside the schema.
