About This Tool

Spells out integers and decimal numbers in English words across four representations at once: Cardinal, Ordinal, Currency (dollars and cents), and Cheque fractional notation (and XX/100).

Backed by JavaScript BigInt rather than IEEE-754 floats, so numbers above Number.MAX_SAFE_INTEGER (up to 36 integer digits, the decillion scale) convert without rounding or precision loss.

Key Features

  • BigInt precision up to decillions: Handles up to 36 integer digits (thousand, million, billion, ..., decillion) with exact digit preservation.
  • Cardinal & ordinal output: Generates both standard cardinal words and irregular English ordinals (first, second, third, fifth, eighth, ninth, twelfth, twentieth).
  • Currency & cheque modes: Spells out USD, EUR, or GBP amounts in full words or cheque format (for example, one thousand two hundred thirty-four and 56/100 dollars).
  • British "and" toggle: Optionally insert "and" after hundreds (one hundred and twenty-three).

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does standard JavaScript lose precision above 15-16 digits, and how does this tool avoid it?
Regular JavaScript numbers are 64-bit floats, which only have 53 bits of significand (up to 9,007,199,254,740,991). This converter parses the integer part directly as a BigInt, preserving every digit up to 10^36 - 1.
How are decimals handled in Cardinal vs Currency mode?
In Cardinal mode, digits after the decimal point are read individually after "point" (for example, 3.14 becomes "three point one four"). In Currency and Cheque modes, the first two decimal digits are treated as cents or pence.
Can I paste numbers formatted with commas or underscores?
Yes. Thousands separators (, and _) and whitespace are stripped automatically before parsing.
