About This Tool

Computes live text statistics entirely in your browser as you type or paste: word count, character count (with and without spaces), sentence count, paragraph count, an estimated reading time at 200 words per minute, and a table of the 10 most frequent words after lowercasing, stripping punctuation, and excluding common English stopwords.

Sentence splitting collapses repeated terminal punctuation ("Really??" is one sentence, not two), and paragraph counting treats any run of blank lines as a single paragraph break.

Key Features

  • Live real-time stats: Every metric updates on each keystroke without needing manual submission.
  • Comprehensive counts: Tracks words, characters with/without spaces, sentences, and paragraphs.
  • Reading time estimate: Computed at standard 200 words per minute reading pace.
  • Top-10 word frequency: Identifies core keywords while automatically filtering out 40+ stopwords.
  • Punctuation collapsing: Handles informal terminal marks like "!!!" or "??" without inflating sentence counts.
  • Instant sample & clear: Quickly evaluate editorial copy or reset the workbench with one click.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is reading time calculated?
Word count divided by 200 words per minute, rounded up to the nearest whole minute, shown as "~N min read". Any non-empty text rounds up to at least 1 minute.
Why do common words like "the" or "and" not show up in Top 10?
They are filtered out as stopwords: a list of common English function words that would otherwise dominate the table without adding meaningful information.
How are sentences counted?
Text is split on runs of ., !, or ? followed by whitespace or the end of the text, so repeated punctuation like "Wow!!!" counts as a single sentence boundary. A trailing fragment with no terminal punctuation still counts as one sentence.
How are paragraphs counted?
Any run of one or more blank lines splits paragraphs. Text with internal line breaks but no blank line between them counts as a single paragraph.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. All analysis runs locally in your browser; nothing you type or paste leaves it.
