About This Tool

Photo Censor lets you obscure private credentials, credit card numbers, addresses, personal faces, and confidential text in screenshots or images before sharing.

Choose between pixelation, gaussian-style box blur, or solid black bars. All transformations are baked directly into the canvas pixels locally in your browser memory. Nothing is uploaded to any server.

Key Features

  • Three redaction modes: Switch between Pixelate, Blur, and Solid Black Bar redaction at any time.
  • Interactive box selection: Click and drag over any sensitive text or area with live marquee guides and mouse/touch support.
  • Non-destructive undo stack: Revert individual redactions step by step or reset to the original image with one click.
  • Sample document generator: Test all features immediately with an in-memory sample document containing dummy sensitive fields.
  • Zero server upload: All pixel manipulations run entirely on local HTML5 Canvas in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can someone undo black bar redactions or reveal what is underneath?
No. The black bar permanently overwrites the RGB pixel values in that rectangle with solid black (#000000). The original underlying image data in that region is destroyed before export.
Which redaction method is safest for passwords and credit cards?
Solid black bars are the most secure because they completely replace the pixel values with uniform color, leaving zero trace of glyph shapes or characters. Pixelation and blur are suitable for faces or general background context.
Are my photos sent across the network?
No. The tool uses standard browser Canvas and File APIs. Processing happens 100% locally on your machine with zero server requests.
What image formats can I upload and download?
You can upload PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, or SVG images. You can export your redacted image as PNG (lossless) or JPEG.
