About This Tool

Generates a balanced 5-color harmony palette from a single base color using classic color-wheel geometry: complementary, analogous, triadic, monochromatic, and split-complementary. The base hex is converted to HSL, rotated across calibrated degree intervals, and converted back to hex.

Click any swatch to copy its hex code, or copy the entire palette as ready-to-use CSS custom property variables for web projects.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the visual difference between the 5 color harmonies?
Complementary uses opposite hues (180 deg) for high dynamic contrast. Analogous uses neighboring hues (+/-30 deg) for visual calm. Triadic and Split-Complementary distribute hues across the color wheel (+/-120 deg and +/-150 deg) for balanced vibrancy. Monochromatic holds hue fixed and varies lightness.
How are the five palette shades derived from one color?
The base hex is converted to HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness). Angles are rotated per color-theory formulas while lightness and saturation are adjusted to ensure a balanced foreground, primary, secondary, and accent spread.
Can I type custom hex codes directly?
Yes. Type any valid 3-character or 6-character hex code (e.g. #4F46E5) and both the palette and native color picker will re-calculate instantly.
How do I use the generated palette in my CSS or Tailwind project?
Click the "Copy CSS Variables" button to copy --color-1 through --color-5 directly into your stylesheet :root block.
Is any color or design data transmitted to an external service?
No. All color-space math runs in your browser JavaScript environment with zero network tracking.
