About This Tool

Converts comma-, tab-, semicolon-, or pipe-delimited spreadsheets into GitHub Flavored Markdown (GFM) tables ready for READMEs, pull requests, and documentation sites.

Configure alignment for all columns or each individual column, toggle synthetic headers when your data has no header row, and switch between aligned ASCII padding and compact output.

Key Features

  • Per-column alignment controls: Set left, center (:---:), or right (---:) alignment globally or per column.
  • Automatic pipe & newline escaping: Escapes literal | characters as \| and converts multiline quoted cells to <br> so GFM table rows never break.
  • Padded vs. compact modes: Format columns to equal monospace widths for clean plain-text reading, or strip extra spaces for minimal byte size.
  • CSV & TSV support: Supports comma, tab, semicolon, and pipe delimiters with full RFC 4180 quoted field parsing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are pipe characters inside CSV cells handled?
Any literal pipe character (|) inside a CSV cell is escaped as \| so Markdown parsers do not mistake it for a column boundary.
What happens if a quoted CSV cell spans multiple lines?
GFM tables require each row to stay on a single line, so embedded line breaks inside quoted CSV fields are converted to <br> tags.
What is the difference between Padded and Compact output?
Padded mode measures the widest cell in each column and pads shorter cells with spaces so pipes line up vertically in a code editor. Compact mode omits extra spaces to minimize character count.
Does my CSV leave my browser?
No. Parsing and table formatting happen locally in your browser.
